Enhanced Field Rifle
NSI’s Enhanced Field Rifle is a no-compromise rifle system comprised of a barreled action, stock, optics mount, and scope. We pick proven components, bond them, and test each example brutally for zero retention. Then, we establish a bulletproof 30-round zero and build a ballistic package with real-world test data to strike targets out to transonic range for your chosen cartridge at your density altitude.
Your Enhanced Field Rifle is fitted with a custom barrel chambered in either a commercially available 6 Creedmoor or our signature 6NSI (based on the 6.5 PRC case) to enable greater target engagement distances with lower recoil. Barrels are threaded 5/8×24.

Rifles need to put a bullet where the shooter intends- after being handled by airline baggage systems, driven over rough forest service roads, carried miles, and dropped in scree. That’s a simple but tall order, and sadly it’s beyond the capability of nearly all rifle systems. That’s why gun marketing focuses on features, weight, and paintjobs.

The heart of all NSI bolt-action rifles is the Tikka barreled action. While costing half of a naked custom action, the Tikka provides a buttery smooth bolt, truly drop-safe trigger, and accurate cold hammer forged barrel. Our Enhanced Field Rifles have their stock barrels replaced with custom American made barrels chambered in high performance cartridges to our particular specifications. To cut weight and add rigidity, we permanently bond your action into a stiff carbon fiber stock with ergonomics optimized for shootability under field conditions.

Despite the focus on robustness, NSI rifles weigh less than many custom rifles built off titanium actions. Most examples come in under 9 pounds fully scoped and ready to hunt. Avoiding unnecessary barrel bulk which does not contribute to precision or lethality does most of the weight-saving work. Our choice of Nitride treatment provides superior corrosion resistance and slickness when compared to stainless steel or cerakote elite.

It’s tempting to cut custom turrets for your scope with yardages engraved for your most common ballistics. However, modern rangefinding and ballistic computing has evolved to deprecate this practice. Rather, NSI shooters use rangefinding binoculars which output a firing solution in MilRadians which is simply dialed into the stock scope-cap.

Our products are simultaneously very inexpensive for a custom rifles and very expensive for factory rifles. The reason for this is simple - the Tikka action and its excellent trigger come with lower costs than custom actions which we feel have unacceptable reliability and safety trade-offs.
The Enhanced variant of our Field Rifle uses custom barrels that enable us to offer high performance chamberings not available in factory Tikka barrels. Both the 6mm Creedmoor and 6mm NSI options propel a projectile with demonstrated game killing pedigree at speeds enabling extended engagement distances. Depending on the case and barrel length, 1,000 yard terminal performance can be achieved. At shorter distances, the high ballistic coefficient and high velocity still benefit the shooter in decreased wind error and increased danger space (range error forgiveness).
The Creedmoor and NSI options provide different advantages to our shooters. While 6cm is available in factory loaded ammunition at low cost through Hornady and others, 6NSI is available exclusively through our partnership with LS Wild. The bespoke 6NSI cartridge is an optimized ecosystem revolving around a necked-down 6.5PRC case. 6NSI shooters can buy ready-to-shoot ammunition at reduced cost whose consistency in components and manufacturing is guaranteed. This means that instead of buying very large lots of factory ammo to ensure zero will not shift, our 6NSI shooters can buy smaller less expensive lots through LS Wild with consistency guarantees lot over lot. Additionally, the 6NSI chambering will produce an extra 300fps of muzzle velocity equating to 200 yards more terminal performance on game, or 1mph less wind drift on targets, compared to the 6cm.

The rifle on its own is a small part of the hit-making equation. Drop-resistant optics and a robust interface between scope and action are details that most often let down the modern shooter. The optic we’ve chosen from fellow Wyoming company Maven passes a stringent drop-test that the vast majority of scopes fail. It also has a well designed first focal plane reticle that makes wind holds simple. The scope mounts we use from Unknown Munitions bypass the installation of a picatinny rail, instead clamping to the Tikka’s excellent built-in rail and securing against threaded recoil lugs. All NSI rifles ship with their 10 round 1.5 MOA proof target as well as their 7 round drop test target.
